Laser Vision Correction
LASIK and Refractive Surgery Co-Management
Laser surgery can overcome nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. It works by reshaping the cornea and allowing the light entering the eye to be properly focused onto the retina. Dr. Newman has extensive experience in LASIK, PRK or Cataract Refractive Technology and its pre-operative evaluation and post-operative care. If it is determined that there are no contraindications for the procedure and the goals are realistic, she would recommend a pre-operative evaluation to determine suitability for surgery.
Pre-Operative Evaluation Determines
- Counseling on refractive surgery options
- Review of eye history and refractive stability
- Current Refraction Status
- Eye dominancy testing
- Medical evaluation of the cornea and eye including a dilated exam
- Topography of the cornea
- Tear film evaluation for Dry Eye Syndrome
The findings are forwarded to the surgeon and an initial consultation with the surgeon is scheduled. Once all testing reveals that you are absolutely a great candidate for the procedure, then you schedule your appointment date for the procedure. It is important to not wear your contact lenses as directed by your doctor for a period of time before the surgery. Dr. Newman will provide post- operative management, which includes multiple required visits up to one year. Evaluations of any additional needs such as reading glasses, sunglasses, or enhancement laser procedures are all part of the post-operative care.
